Sülzle is first CO2-neutral reinforcing steel distributor in Germany

SÜLZLE takes its commitment to sustainable management seriously and has therefore taken a close look at its CO2 footprint. Climate-relevant emissions were analyzed, reduced and compensated. Since 2020 SÜLZLE Stahlpartner GmbH is a climate neutral company. As the first reinforcing steel dealer in Germany, SÜLZLE now also offers its customers the possibility to purchase "green steel". This is a milestone in the reinforcing steel industry, as sustainable building materials are more in demand than ever.

SÜLZLE Stahlpartner supplies for the first time about 4,000 tons of CO2-neutral construction steel for the modern extension buildings of the wheel and castor specialist Blickle from Rosenfeld. "Sustainable building is the future. CO2-neutral steel is an important component - also because steel can generally be recycled again and again," emphasize Heinrich and Andreas Sülzle, managing partners of the SÜLZLE Group. SÜLZLE Stahlpartner is thus a pioneer in the reinforcing steel industry and enables building owners to choose steel with a neutral ecological balance already today.

In order to offset previously unavoidable CO2 emissions from steel, customers can purchase high-quality climate protection certificates to offset these emissions and, when buying "green steel", have their support for global projects and the associated climate neutrality certified for the purchased steel. The basis for this is the CO2 product footprint determined beforehand. Global compensation projects include a hydroelectric power project in Uganda, a forest reforestation project in Uruguay, a water treatment project in Zimbabwe and a photovoltaic project in India. SÜLZLE is not only thinking regionally, but worldwide to support the future of renewable energies and sustainable growth in emerging and developing countries.

"Sustainability has long been an important topic in our family. We will therefore gradually reduce the CO2 footprint of the entire Group. What cannot be reduced will be compensated. Our ambition is to take responsibility in order to support the 17 goals for sustainable development to achieve the UN's Agenda 2030," emphasizes the SÜLZLE shareholders, who are the fourth generation of the SÜLZLE family to manage the company. Since March 2020, the SÜLZLE Group is therefore an active supporter of the Alliance for Development and Climate.

The shareholders of the SÜLZLE Group and Blickle Räder+Rollen GmbH & Co. KG not only combine family tradition with entrepreneurial thinking and acting over generations. A careful use of resources is also close to both entrepreneurs' hearts. At the official press event on 12 October at the Blickle construction site, the first supply of CO2-neutral reinforcing steel was presented to the public. "The construction project at the market leader for wheels and castors in our hometown shows how modern industrial construction can be implemented sustainably with "green steel". A high goal for the future, which we can only achieve together with our customers, employees, suppliers and partners," says Heinrich Sülzle. "We congratulate the Blickle company on the extension buildings and look forward to further sustainable construction projects," adds Andreas Sülzle.

The wheels and castors specialist from Rosenfeld continues to grow and is building a new polyurethane production facility at its headquarters. In addition, the administration building is expanded with a modern customer center and a staff canteen - one of the largest investments in the company's history. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new production building took place in March 2020 and the second for the seven-story administration building in September this year. In its new buildings, Blickle attaches great importance to climate neutrality, not only with regard to reinforcing steel. Highly efficient technology and an intelligent building envelope keep heating and cooling requirements very low. "With the extension buildings, we are continuing to focus on the Rosenfeld site and creating capacities for the future," says David Blickle, member of the management board of Blickle Räder+Rollen GmbH u. Co. KG.
