Shipments & stocks of EU steel distribution in first 10 months 2019

In the first 10 months of 2019, shipments of EU SSC dropped by -3,6 %. In same period shipments of EU multi-product & proximity steel stockholding distribution were down by -4,8%

EUROMETAL’s market monitoring system is tracking EU steel distribution shipments and stocks for its two main business segments:

  • Flat SSC distribution
    • Multi-Product & Proximity Steel Stockholding distribution

EU Flat SSC Distribution

In first 10 months of 2019, shipments of EU SSC did fall  by -3,6 % in a year-on-year comparison. The negative trend in SSC shipments was accompanied by almost unchanged SSC stock indices. When expressed in days of shipments, stocks at EU SSC reached 70 days in October 2019, compared to 65 days in October 2018. For October 2019, the index of stock volumes did slightly rise and noted at index 110, to be compared with index 109 in October 2018 (average 2015 = index 100).

In the first 10 months of 2019, EU Multi-Product & Proximity Steel Stockholding Distribution registered lower shipments for almost all products of its portfolio. Only rebar shipments noted higher. As a matter of fact, during the first 10 months of 2019, total shipments dropped by -4,8%, year-on-year. Stock volumes index of EU Multi-Product & Proximity Steel Stockholding Distribution registered at 89 in October 2019, to be compared to a significantly higher index of 102 one year before (average 2015 =Index 100). When expressed in days of shipments, stock volumes levelled in October 2019 at 71 days of shipments, compared to 72 days in October 2018.
